Their Language and Writing System
It seems to be that this civilization seem to have left no tracks when it comes to the language spoken by them, many might argue that they spoke Sanskrit while others argue that they spoke Akkadin. Even though historians, archeologists and architects are unable to decipher the ancient writings found by the Indus Valley population; we are still safe to say that they themselves had their own writing systems. One of the main problems why deciphering their writings is so hard is because they only consist of 6 figures or symbols on most hieroglyphics found; the longest one recorded consist of 26 figures. Due to the lack of evidence for any conclusions to whether or not the hieroglyphics are writings or drawings, archeologists can no further more give answers; some assumptions made by them are that maybe the hieroglyphics found are just names of people and was only used when recording names, another assumption was that they don`t represent sound or meaning but just as modern day logos.
How They Spent Their Leisure Time
The Great Bath in Mohenjo-daro
Many pots, vessels, bowls, seals and cloths have been discovered. The Indus are said to have advanced in pottery, weaving and metal work. Historians and scholars describe the work found on pots as very high quality with unusually beautiful designs. Other things found were bowls, figurines and ornaments made of copper, silver and bronze. One thing we know for sure is that art was a major hobby when it came to leisure time. Another activity that was highly popular back in the time period was taking a bath. Yes, taking a bath was as fun as going to the movies on a Friday night; in Mohenjo-daro there is a 7.01 m by 1.88 m bath that has the depth of 2.43 m. The Great Bath was a place to socialize; it has two stairs or steps at opposite ends of it and had changing rooms around it. Other things they did for their free time were, play instruments such as the Tambora, Sirangai and Satir. Lastly they also enjoyed dancing as one of their things to do during their leisure time.
Religious Beliefs and Views
Lord Vishnu Sleeping while Lord Brahma watches guard on the Golden Lotus
The people of the Indus Civilization were polytheistic, meaning they believed in more than one god; it is uncertain about how many gods they believed in and how many holy sanctuaries there were. However historians were able to uncover Pasupathi (The Mother Goddess), one the many gods they had, she was said to be the mother of fertility. Two other gods they believed in were Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma; Lord Vishnu is said to be the creator of the universe, Lord Brahma is the nobleman who watches over him. When lord Vishnu awakens from his sleep the universe will be destroyed that is why it`s Lord Brahma`s job to watch guard so he`ll never awaken. There has been multiple figurines and statues of various creations found in Harappa and Mohenjo-daro; there are statues of men, women and animals. Some things that are unique about the burial ceremonies of these people were that they buried their dead in wooden coffins and within them you would find some simple ornaments and vessels filled with food; like the Egyptians they believed in the afterlife also. So far no royal burials have been excavated or discovered.
